Join the Previs Movement
What is this?
The first step in the effort to organize Previs is having you, the workers, join the movement. We need to know who you are and where you work. This is a form that asks you to provide the same information you would on a representation card.
Is this a Representation Card?
NO! Filling out this form is not the same as signing a representation card. However, this is a way to alert the union that you’re interested in representation and requesting more information.
What is a Rep Card anyway?
A Rep Card is formally referred to as an “Authorization for Representation” and says that you authorize the IATSE to represent you with your employer for the purpose of collective bargaining – essentially, that you wish to be part of the IATSE and you want them to negotiate a contract with your employer. Receiving a card from an employee does not guarantee that we will organize the employer. We first need support from a majority of the employees. Again, signing the card is the first step. It demonstrates to the Union that there is support among the workers.
We have been asked multiple times to provide an “online” version of the Representation Card for people to sign over the internet. While it’s easy to understand why something like this is requested, it’s also important to realize that according to the NLRB, the only form of this card that can be accepted is the traditional, physical one that is filled out and signed by you and returned to the union.
So then why fill this out?
If you’re interested in union representation and want to get the process started, fill out this form and submit it to us. We will use the information you provide here to maintain contact with those in the workforce and to gauge interest at various employers. We will automatically send you an actual Representation Card with a postage-paid return envelope that you should fill out and return to us. We will also contact you to announce meetings where we will discuss the Organization Process and how that will work with your current employer.
Please note: this form is designed for Previs Artists in the United States. Artists in other areas should consult with the appropriate local labor body - such as IATSE Local 891 in Vancouver or BECTU in England.
